Q: An educational app with audio resources

Hi there, with Level 2, can I create an app that offers a course that I can charge for? The course will have a number of audio recordings, text and images. Where will the audio files be hosted? Do I need say a separate AWS account or ... ? How does the hosting of audio (or video) work within the app. While I have created websites before, I am new to app creation, so apologies if my questions are stupid.
If I charge $5 for the app on Android and Apple - how much do you, Apple, or Android take?

A: Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out.

With our Custom app product, you can create interactive pages with texts, images, and videos. We don’t currently allow audio file uploads, but you can embed audio files from third parties via an embedded snippet. All content is hosted on our servers – you don’t need to purchase a hosting package for your content.

Currently, we do not offer any way to gate your content behind a paywall. Any content you publish within the app will be made available to all app users.

There is a workaround – if you have a website where you’re already selling courses, you can turn it into an app. Within the Custom app, you can add webview screens which link directly to your website where you’re selling courses. Users can pay and checkout within the webview interface.

One problem you will face is that purchase of non-physical products like courses needs to be done via in-app purchases, a system which routes payments via Google and Apple Pay. While you can purchase the in-app purchases feature, it’s currently available with our WordPress and WooCommerce products only.

On a side note, we don’t charge any commission on sales. You will need to pay 30% for every sale to Apple and Google for every sale.

Please feel free to reach out for more questions.

Thanks. In terms of charging for the app - I don't want to have in app purchases, just that people have to pay a small fee to download and install the app from Apple or Google. Is that possible? I would get 70% of the cost of the app fee?
