ByDesign has received positive feedback for its fantastic integration with leading calendars, simple yet effective habit tracking with reminders, and the ability to create a reminder system for daily habits that seamlessly integrates with Google Calendars. However, some users have mentioned the lack of certain customization options and minor UI issues. Overall, ByDesign is a solid buy for those in need of a customizable digital planner, and with a 60-day money-back guarantee, it's worth giving it a try.

Loving it so far

The feature that it automates with Google Calendar makes the app so easy to use with existing appointments in my mobile calendar.

The layout when using the laptop is so simple to move to do list items into my calendar.

So simple and easy to use. There are a range of prompts when first starting which guide you through some of the features. ( I suppose something I may find useful is seeing how someone else has used some of the features especially in pages/ workspace area, maybe it's various greyed out templates to cycle through )

Possible new features:
- Print out tools ( could print partial month if planning a holiday for 1-2 weeks or work project/event that goes 1-2 weeks) Could consider a template with goals / hotels / pack list etc content to support calendar section.
- With Google Calendar there is a feature to have multiple calendars shared with various people like having a work calendar and a personal calendar. Is there a feature to separate content? So if sharing calendar with colleague they could only see whatever is tagged work.
- Perhaps a simple timer and vibrating alarms during events (eg. 5 minutes before end or 5/30 minutes before start of next event or repetitive 5 minute alarm or after set time 45 minutes X minute break - pomodoro technique etc.

Thanks,

Josh

Hey Josh, thank you so much for this thoughtful review! Really glad to hear you're enjoying the calendar integration and how easy it feels to drag tasks around on desktop. That simplicity is something we’re always trying to protect, even as we add more power under the hood.

Love the feature ideas too - especially the print tools for focused planning windows, and the ability to tag content for...

ByDesign shows real potential—excited to see it grow

I've been using ByDesign for about a week now, mainly as an alternative to Notion, though I realize that's not entirely its intended purpose. So far, I find it more organized than Notion. However, I do notice that I’m missing some flexibility, particularly on the wiki side. You can tell that certain aspects of the platform are still a bit underdeveloped.

On the other hand, when I consider that the team has managed to create a completely new application—including a solid iOS app, an Android app (which I can’t personally evaluate), as well as Mac and Windows applications—I have to say it feels like a very complete system at this point. Honestly, I’m impressed. I also enjoy contributing to initiatives like this, providing feedback, which I actively do.

I’ve noticed that MyDesign has a very active Discord community. They respond incredibly quickly and are very positive about feedback. Regular updates are released, and that’s one of the main reasons I chose ByDesign. I plan to keep using it and won’t be requesting a refund, primarily because I see a lot of potential in it. From experience, I know that applications backed by an active team and community tend to make significant progress. So, in that sense, I have confidence in its future.

Hi Arjan!! Really appreciate you taking the time to write this — and for sticking with us as we grow. You're right, there’s still a lot to build out. It's something we’re actively working on, and feedback like yours helps us shape it in the right direction.

Hearing that ByDesign already feels more organized than Notion means a lot. We’re trying to strike that balance between structure and...

Excellent Value

AppSumo has a lot of productivity apps and to-do apps, and I've tried several of them, but ByDesign is my favorite app that helps me get things done. It looks good, is easy to understand and use, and makes me more productive.

I've spent years writing my to-do list in a .txt file on my desktop, and I was looking for a more efficient alternative that connected to my calendar. So I tried Chaos Control and Illumtori here, then the famous ones online such as TickTick, Todoist, Sunsama, and Microsoft To-do. They all do one thing well, but not a lot beyond that. And some are free, while others are crazy expensive (such as Sunsama, at $192 a year). ByDesign has a value-driven mix of the features and design elements from these apps, so as an LTD, it's worth picking up now before they stop offering it.

ByDesign is still being developed compared to those long-standing competitor apps, but what's here is already good, and their tech support and response times are great. I spent 4 hours using the app in detail and writing feedback, requests, small complaints, and a couple bugs that I then sent to their CEO, Arthur, and he responded to each of my concerns and assured me that his team feels the same way I do about most of them, and will work on implementing the changes I requested. That level of attention and support is missing from so many startups, and it convinced me to make the purchase on this LTD.

I recommend downloading ByDesign's free trial from their site, writing some to-do lists, syncing your calendar, customizing your dashboard, and using it for a few days. Then when you see how productive you are, grab this LTD and invest in yourself.

I had almost given up on it... and now:

I have to say that I've always had problems with ToDo apps. Either the apps are so cumbersome that it's easier and faster for me to just write everything down on paper, or the apps are sluggish, and when I finally have a somewhat performant app, I can't add notes, I have to laboriously transfer them to my calendar, possibly even to my various calendars (private and professional)... I've never lasted more than two weeks with ToDo apps and always fell back on good old paper and note chaos. And that's despite the fact that I basically do everything digitally.

And then... I saw ByDesign here on AppSumo. First thought "Ok, but should I really try again? I know myself"... but then I saw the notes function, that I can manage multiple calendars (including multiple Outlook calendars) with ByDesign, and so I decided to give it a try after all. And that was a real awakening, because:

After a very short time I basically understood everything about how it works, the app is extremely fast and handy (whether in the browser, as a desktop app or as an Android app), I can, for example, create a ToDo lightning-fast and with a little drag it's already in the calendar (Outlook itself is actually very cumbersome, with ByDesign it's a matter of seconds), I can just make a little note, also gladly a detailed note with Pages (and yesss! also quickly export to my beloved Markdown), share my note... simply absolutely amazing.

I really couldn't believe anymore that I would find such an app that's easy for me to use and where I even enjoy working with it - now I've found it with ByDesign. There are still some little bugs in it (like with any software), but they get fixed lightning-fast. A big THANK YOU to the developer team for this app, especially to Arthur, who always responds lightning-fast, is super friendly and always helpful - simply awesome!

Although I've only been using the app for a few days now, I can already say that ByDesign is definitely one of my best purchases ever here... and I've bought a lot, as you can see in my profile. I actually wanted to slowly hold back on software purchases, but here it would have been a huge mistake if I had let this app pass me by.

Once again a huge thanks to the ByDesign team for solving a problem I've been carrying around for years, and my appreciation for the extremely well thought-out app! :) I'm also recommending it to my colleagues and acquaintances ;)

What would be the cherry on top: If you could make handwritten notes in addition to the regular Pages or have a simple whiteboard. I have a tablet with a stylus and also a graphics tablet. The problem would then be that AppSumo would have to make it possible to give 6 stars ;)

Hi Lars! this message truly means a lot — thank you for taking the time to share it so thoughtfully.

Hearing that ByDesign helped you break free from the cycle of frustration with to-do apps and finally enjoy planning and organizing… that’s honestly the highest compliment we could hope for. We built this for people like us — who’ve tried everything, felt stuck, and just wanted something that...

Really Love ByDesign...

If you're looking for an easy to navigate task manager, that is simple and yet very versatile and powerful at the same time, then this is a must have.

"Simplicity with the power and flexibility to make your own"

I actively dislike 'every day' apps that are complicated, hard to work out and as such waste time, money and cause stress (not what productivity apps are supposed to do??). ByDesign is the opposite of that and very inuitive to use and most people will be able to work it out really quickly.

I "feel like I can breathe" when i use this app, and look foward to opening it up.

It's only early days for them, and already I love this app, and I've tried a load recently and over the years! There's obviously a lot of thought gone into ByDesign and a clear remit on waht it's supposed to do. It has a 'feeling' of clarity. And there's a lot in the pipeline.

I love the fact I can easily see my values, goals for the year, and habits all in 1 place. It also has gamification as a motivator to keep you on track.

>The UI looks grea
> UX is great
>Intergrates with Google calendar
>IOS app works really well
> Support was lighting quick and helpful
>Calendar view looks and works great.

A final thought:

Making something simple yet highly functional and powerful is tough! It was Einstein who famously said "everything should be as simple as possible, but not simpler" and this has that.

So if you want simplicity with flexibility and the power to create a dahsboard that suits you and the way you work, then this is superb. It can only get better.

"Hat's off to the crew at ByDesign"

I hope we're included in all the new features, but even without them, I love this.

Keep up the good work.

Wow — thank you so much for this incredibly thoughtful and generous review. You perfectly captured what we're aiming for with ByDesign: clarity, simplicity, and real power — without the overwhelm. It means a lot to hear that the app helps you “breathe” and actually want to open it each day.

We totally agree — building something simple and flexible is one of the hardest design challenges, and your...
