Q: Twine comparison, output, custom branding

Hey! A few questions:
How would you compare it to Twine for the specific purpose of creating interactive branching scenarios?
Stupid question, but I fail to understand what the output looks like, in terms of format. Is it an web app, a single html file, a scorm file, a service hosted on your servers? Can it be exported?
What does custom branding entail?

A: Hi,

Thank you for your interest and for asking important questions. I'll try to answer them one-by-one:

> How would you compare it to Twine for the specific purpose of creating interactive branching scenarios?

Huge caveat: I'm not an experienced Twine user, so I might get something wrong here.

The biggest difference is that Twine doesn't provide any kind of back-end. So if you were interested in getting data on how your users navigate the choices you're presenting, I'm not sure how you'd do that with Twine. With GuidedTrack that happens on autopilot.

As far as I can tell, with Twine, you have to figure out how to host the content. GuidedTrack handles hosting for you.

Unlike with Twine, you can add accounts to your GuidedTrack content, so if your use case calls for a long-term relationship with your customers/users, that's trivial to do with GuidedTrack.

With GuidedTrack, you can collect payments within your app, if that's called for.

I'm not sure if Twine allows you to reach out to anything external. Can you send an email? Hit an API and generate the content of a scene based on that? That's all stuff GuidedTrack can do.

GuidedTrack also has powerful randomization features, which I doubt Twine can match (https://docs.guidedtrack.com/manual/additional-keywords/randomizing-what-is-displayed/#embedded-expressions-in-randomize).

In short, I'd say GuidedTrack is much more powerful than Twine.

> Stupid question, but I fail to understand what the output looks like, in terms of format. Is it a web app, a single html file, a scorm file, a service hosted on your servers?

Not a stupid question at all.

The output is a web app. If you're more technical, think of it as a single-page app *and* a back-end, which is either accessible via a (hard to guess) link or can be embedded inside a div on your own website.

> Can it be exported?

Yes.

If you want to create an HTML page that runs content created with GuidedTrack, that's very doable, and we've done it. The only caveat is it would be difficult with very large apps.

You can also export the GuidedTrack code into text files, if you want to work on it within your own text editor. We provide some simple tools for uploading content back up to guidedtrack.com when you're ready to publish.

> What does custom branding entail?

We'll be adding to it over time, but for now it means:

- you can set up your own logo to show up on the login page (if you're using the accounts feature)
- you can set a display name for emails coming from your programs, so they look good when they arrive in the recipient's inbox
- you can set up a custom reply-to email, so that when your users respond to emails they've gotten through your programs, those emails go to you directly

Hope that resolves at least some of the confusion.
