Q: What classifies as a document?

Can you please specifically define what a document means in regards to monthly limits? As an example, real estate documents. There's a number of "documents" within a document like addendums. You'll have a purchase agreement along with various other documents, so how does that work?

A: Happy to clarify this — it’s an important question!

When we refer to a "document" in terms of monthly limits, we’re actually talking about a sign request (sometimes also called an “envelope” in other platforms). A sign request represents a single transaction where one or more documents are sent to one or more signers for signature.

Within a single sign request, you can upload and merge multiple individual files (such as PDFs or Word documents). From the signer’s perspective, they’ll receive one cohesive document to review and sign, regardless of how many files were combined.

For example, in real estate: if you have a purchase agreement, multiple addendums, and disclosures — all of those can be combined into one sign request. This would count as one document toward your monthly quota.

To make it more concrete, in our Tier 1 plan, you have 100 sign requests per month. Each sign request allows you to merge up to 3 PDF files into a single signing flow.
