Q: Weired Plans

I would like to try reap, but do I get it right:
The Lifetime-Plan starts on 499 Dollars and everythign cheaper is not Lifetime?

Pretty weired as we are on a Platform for "Lifetime-Deals" to see that lifetime is only possible in such a hign price-range.

A: You’re right — only the higher-tiers includes lifetime deal. Here’s why:

Running AI products like reap incurs high on-going costs — LLMs, video understanding models, and other compute-heavy systems are expensive to operate and constantly evolve. To stay viable and deliver our core value (AI-powered repurposing, updates, and new features), we can’t offer low-cost lifetime deals.

This model actually benefits you: we stay sustainable, ship new features, adapt to market shifts, and keep your workflow future-proof. Plus, our annual plans are heavily discounted and lock in your renewal rate — so you can keep using/renewing reap at the same low price without paying hefty amount for lifetime.

By introducing annual deals, AppSumo has made it possible for more sustainable, AI-powered, and high-quality products to list on the platform—especially those that avoid offering lifetime deals, which are often financially unsustainable for serious, long-term products.

I shurely understand why. But on the other hand ... I got VideoTap, Exemplary and others, that are in the same situation like you and they all managed to offer a Lifetime-Deal for a "normal" price. Just because they had matching limits.

Thank you Julian, I cannot comment on their business models, and we respect those tools, but AI LTDs aren’t sustainable. Either they’re betting on future compute cost drops, plan to upsell monthly plans later, or won’t improve offerings on upcoming models. True innovation in AI needs sustainable pricing, ensuring access to the state of the art models.

Check our updated lifetime tiers.

I know AppSumo did not ask if I wanted annual deals vs LTD. Looks to me like it is more about making a quick dollar. Over the past few years product level has dropped and the AppSumo platform is fading in quality and service. Best of luck!

Can’t speak for AppSumo, but I’ve known it for years many solid founders had great LTD runs. With this annual plan shift, I’ve seen serious Valley startups now open to launching here. LTDs only work for low-compute tools. For AI products, annuals attract better, sustainable products that wouldn’t otherwise list. I personally feel its a new era of Appsumo and will bring a lot of excellent products.
