The Next-Level Research Tool You’ve Been Waiting For
Imagine having a super-smart robot buddy that never gets tired, never guesses answers, and can sort through stacks of books in seconds. That’s exactly what Socrates offers. It’s not just another AI tool—it’s a complete game-changer for people who work with large amounts of information, like me.
I’ve been creating online courses for 30 years, and my work requires deep research. Over the years, I’ve built a huge library of notes, books, and reference materials. To develop my courses, I often need to dive into all this content, read through it, and make sense of it. As you can imagine, this takes an incredible amount of time.
When AI tools like ChatGPT launched in 2023, I was thrilled! I thought it would finally lighten my workload. But as many of you know, these AI tools helped only a little. The major flaw they all shared is something called “hallucinations,” which is a fancy way of saying they just make things up when they don’t know the answer. That’s a serious problem when you need accurate and trustworthy information.
Enter Socrates: Built for Accuracy
After trying nearly every AI research tool out there—ChatGPT, Claude, NotebookLM, Afforai, and many others—I discovered Socrates.
Unlike other tools, Socrates uses an advanced system called RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation). What does this mean? It’s like giving an AI access to a magical library where it can search for the exact answers you need instead of making things up.
Here’s how it works:
Upload Your Info: You add your personal documents, PDFs, or research materials. Socrates organizes it all into a special database.
Smart Learning: When you ask a question, Socrates searches for the most relevant information in your documents.
Flawless Answers: It pulls real data from your files instead of relying on guesses, combining its AI power with facts.
Thanks to this technology, Socrates doesn’t just save time—it eliminates frustration. I can now spend more time crafting my courses and writing my book and less time searching or fact-checking.
Why Is Socrates Better?
Here’s what stands out:
Unlimited Uploads: I can add as many documents as I want. Most other tools, like Google’s NotebookLM, only let you work with 50 documents at a time.
Massive Chat Capacity: Socrates handles up to 100 million characters (about 222 books).
Real Math Skills: It even solves math problems accurately—something most other AI tools fail at.
No Hallucinations: It always gives accurate answers directly from my documents. I’ve tested it against many competitors, and Socrates outperformed them every time.
For example, I compared Socrates and NotebookLM with some detailed documents. Socrates found 113 risks across the documents, while NotebookLM only found 35. That’s 78 important points that Socrates identified and the competitor missed!
How It Changed My Work
Socrates has transformed how I create courses and write books, reducing tasks that once took years to just months. For example, a book I thought would take 3 years to finish will be ready in four months. Additionally, Socrates helped me condense a year’s research into just two months. With plans to write 10 books in the next 18 months, I’m confident Socrates will help me achieve this goal.
Powerful Features
Socrates isn’t just for reading and answering questions. Two standout tools make it even more helpful:
Table AI: Analyze and differentiate several documents in a table.
Flow AI: Select from various sources, use multiple prompts, and get answers to any question.
You can also use its DeepDive feature when Upload PDFs to quickly extract key details in seconds. See my demo video https://youtu.be/SB7e38XhRH4
Another incredible perk? You can even install Socrates locally on your computer. This is great for people like me who prioritize privacy. Amazingly, it works well even on my old 12-year-old PC. While it’s a bit slow at 2 tokens per second, I appreciate that my personal data stays private and doesn’t contribute to AI training models elsewhere.
Amazing Customer Support
I was impressed by Socrates' founder, Jon, who personally spent hours helping me fix an issue I caused while setting up my wife’s account. His hands-on support and openness to user suggestions are rare in tech platforms.
The Final Verdict
If you work with lots of information—whether you’re a student, researcher, content creator, or writer—Socrates is a must-have. It completely changes how you handle research and helps you accomplish tasks faster, smarter, and more accurately than ever before.
I no longer waste time searching for tools that deliver half-baked results. Socrates outshines every other LLM (Large Language Model)-based tool I’ve tried. This is the only tool I trust for research and writing—whether it’s for my courses, my books, or any future projects.
Don´t waste your money, get while you can.
Thank you, Jon, for building it. Five tacos from me—and if I could, I’d give it ten!

A solid product!
I’m enjoying Socrates the accuracy is on point with researching your documents and finding the page where they pull the information you’re looking for along with precise feed back. Similar apps that I use continue to have problems with doing the same. Socrates stands out because of this to me. I’m impressed, this is a solid product! Don’t miss this deal.

New User unfriendly, otherwise excellent product
I purchased a Tier 4 License, and it was for a week.
My only complaint about the product is that it is unfriendly to new users. Details are as follows:
1. The "Getting Started" option should be prominently displayed on the initial screen. Currently, it is hidden at the bottom of the Help Center page. Again, its presentation is not very friendly. It has Basic Usage (9 articles) and Deep Dive and Other Advanced Tools (5 articles). Definitely a New want only 1 place to go to learn how get started quickly instead of wondering which of the 14 articles to read first.
2. The way the Help Centre is presented is very unfriendly and lacks structure. I am more used to having the option to appear on the LHS sidebar. Currently, the option appears at different locations on the help center page.
3. Perhaps a FAQ on the help center page would be useful.
4. Perhaps the Help and Knowledge base should be classified into some useful category and it will be easier to retrieve.
5. Some sample use cases for "Table AI" and "Flow AI" would be useful for new users.
6. A better explanation of some terminology, such as instruction, template, column, prompt loop, and the relationships among these terms, would definitely help a new user to grasp the usefulness of the product more quickly!
Otherwise, the product is delivered as promised. Would have given a 5 tacos rating - if the above issues are addressed.

A must have for everyone
I transcribe about 6 hours of meetings each day. This tool allows me to bring those text files in as well as documents to keep track of everything. This is a great tool for everyone since it even will take snapshots of websites. I just wish it could do OCR on images, pull from notion, and auto update it's sources if changes have been made.

Works Well
I've really enjoyed being a Tier 4 subscriber to Socrates, it's powerful and works well for my document Q&A needs. It's simple to use and returns results quickly, and I like having a desktop app on Mac rather than just website access for the UI. Recommended.
