Q: Hi, The session recording software I used so far records a new session automatically as soon as a new user ...
visits a site, without limitation (other than x recordings/month). And it tracks all pages. It seems TC does not have this option. Am I correct?

We encourage TruConversion users to accumulate data when they need it versus having to dig through what seems to be an endless amount of data.
When it comes to session recordings, analyzing those data sets takes a lot of time. We've found that being intentional saves time and gets you the most important data for your particular needs.
That's also why we included heatmap and recording triggers in Smart Funnels. Rather than always having a recording or heatmap on, you can trigger a them to turn on when a campaign is performing under a user-defined threshold.
Hope that helps!

So if I want to record 20 steps of an assessment for company A, I enter the 20 pages the user goes through, correct?
The user is able to go from e.g. step 6 back to step 4 and proceed. Will the recording keep up with that? That is will the recording show step 1 2 3 4 5 6 4 5 6 ...?
And is it possible to clone the settings of a recording? So that I don't have to enter those 20 pages for company B and only have to change 1 page?
There are all sorts of ways to capture this type of a recording. You don't need to define each step individually, I'd recommend viewing our documentation on URL targeting (http://help.truconversion.com/knowledgebase/url-targeting/) so you can use the step that would capture this assessment.
What's the URL structure in this case? You could set recordings to start on pages that include .../assessment/ or something like that.
Alas that does not help.
I use session recording mainly for support issues. So once I get a user IP from my Drupal back end, I can filter on IP in my session recordings and get their session to find out what happened.
Pity
This is a very interesting use case I didn't think of. Thanks for sharing and I'll keep it in mind as we continue to improve the product.
If TC had a scheduling option for session recording, I could set up recordings for e.g. a year and be done with.
